UN IGF Dynamic Coalition Pioneers Governance with DAO Implementation
The United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Dynamic Coalition on Blockchain Assurance & Standardization has unveiled an ambitious project heralding the creation of a Distributed Autonomous Organization (DAO).
The initiative, a joint endeavor among public sector entities, serves as a testament to the potential of blockchain technology and DAO principles in shaping transparent and rule-based governance structures.
Within the UN Internet Governance Forum, Dynamic Coalitions are integral, multi-stakeholder groups addressing specific internet governance issues. Independent but aligned with the UN-IGF, these coalitions foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders, producing reports and guidelines.
It is worth noting that a DAO operates under smart contracts encoded on a blockchain, embodying decentralized governance. These contracts, embedded within the blockchain, facilitate decision-making, eliminating traditional hierarchical structures. Through digital tokens and transparent rules immutably recorded on the blockchain, DAOs aim to instill trust, transparency, and efficiency while empowering members to manage resources collectively.
Dino Cataldo Dell’Accio, UN IGF DC-BAS co-leader and CIO of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund, emphasized the project’s significance, “This initiative marks a pivotal leap in forging innovative and secure governance models, ensuring blockchain’s advantageous integration within public sector organizations. The UN IGF DC-BAS remains committed to transparency, collaboration, and the ethical adoption of emerging technologies.”
Hosted by the Government Blockchain Association (GBA), the Dynamic Coalition collaborates across global stakeholders, facilitated by co-leaders Gerard Dache and Dino Cataldo Dell’Accio, hosting open forums monthly.
The initiative leverages technology from Gosh, an Ethereum Layer 2 solution supporting free on-chain smart contract deployment. Collaborating with various GBA working groups, such as Application Architecture, Digital Asset Management, DAO Governance, and Legal & Legislative, the pilot aims for comprehensive implementation.
Accessible through the UN IGF BAS-DC Google Group, the coalition invites participation from interested parties, fostering inclusive contributions towards innovative governance models.
