ConsenSys to hold First Blockchain Developer Bootcamp in Lebanon
ConsenSys announced today that it will be conducting a 3-day blockchain developer training followed by a 2-day hackathon in Lebanon on 17 October 2018.
From the workings of blockchain technology to its applications and features, participants will receive in-depth training on how to create a development environment, build decentralized applications (dApp) with Ethereum smart contracts and integrate the dApps with web applications.
“Lebanon has always adopted an entrepreneurial approach in dealing with challenges; and the startup ecosystem has been growing in the recent years. There are a lot of developers and entrepreneurs looking for some expert guidance and direction,” said Marc Ziade, Business Operations & Strategy Director at ConsenSys and Lebanon Bootcamp Lead.
“The ConsenSys Blockchain Developer Bootcamp is designed to address Lebanon’s many issues such as the energy shortage and the refugee situation. Not only will it create awareness about how to unlock the potential of a new technology like blockchain while staying away from the crypto-currency craze, but will also harness the talent we know exists in Lebanon and equip them with the skills needed to tackle these challenges,” he added.
With blockchain for social impact high on the ConsenSys agenda, 25 percent of the spaces available will be provided for free to refugees who are already adept at programing.
Strategy& and Beirut Digital District have been brought on board as Platinum Sponsors. Middle East Venture Partners and Flat6Labs will be Silver Sponsors and ArabNet and TechFugees as community partners are supporting this initiative with the aim to empower talent in Lebanon.
“Finding and honing tech talent and innovation in the Middle East is a primary objective of ConsenSys. This initiative is a testament to this. We look forward to working closely with our partners in Lebanon to find this next generation of brilliant minds and help define the many use cases in this country that could benefit from blockchain technology,” said Asim Janjua, Director, ConsenSys MENA.
The website lebanonbootcamp.consensys.net is now live with applications closing on September 30. The 3-day training will be held at Beirut Digital District on October 17 followed by a 2-day hackathon. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 winners.
