Ancient Bitcoin Whale Moves $5.47M to Kraken After 15 Years of Holding

Blockchain data from Arkham Intelligence revealed on Monday that an ancient bitcoin whale who has held Bitcoin for 15 years has transferred another portion of their significant holdings to the U.S. crypto exchange Kraken.

Arkham has been monitoring this whale closely. Earlier this month, the investor, who originally acquired Bitcoin in 2009, moved nearly $3.6 million worth of coins to Kraken.

The Bitcoin whale, tracked by Arkham, mined their BTC just five days after Bitcoin’s first block was created on January 13, 2009. This time, the ancient Bitcoin whale transferred $630,000 in Bitcoin—often referred to as “digital gold”—to the exchange. The whale currently holds 1,139.2 BTC, valued at $74.5 million. Since August, they have shifted $5.47 million in Bitcoin to Kraken.

Bitcoin whales, typically individuals or institutions holding at least 1,000 BTC (worth about $67 million today), are known for holding their assets for years.

When whales make significant moves, it can trigger market reactions as traders and investors anticipate potential large-scale sell-offs. Such sales can put downward pressure on Bitcoin’s price. However, in this instance, the relatively small size of the transaction is more notable for the age of the coins than for its impact on the market.
